Smile I need help with paint...

Hi all,

I am currently giving my 1969 911t whoís original color (special order paint for Ď69) is Golden Green 6828 a sympathetic restoration.

Unfortunately, I donít have Glasurit paint available to me and Iíll have to use a PPG paint... well, I was just wondering if any of you have any information as to the paint equivalent and or formula I can use to match the original paint or what other paint brand I can use thatís readily available thatíll work? I have the paint information for Glasurit but whatís the PPG equivalent?

I appreciate any information anyone can give me. Iíve already asked CPR restauration in Fallbrook, CA and John Wilhoit but Iím still not at a solution.

PS, the photos included are of a car John Wilhoit did and Jerry Seinfeldís car, they of course always seem different depending on the lighting and age of the paint... and, is the VW color Berber Yellow on this 1975 914 the same thing?

VW colors are often different than Porsche colors even when they have the same name. You can’t often tell until they are side by side.

Not a ton of help, but Lesanol was an early factory Porsche paint supplier in addition to Glasurit. Maybe you can contact them about Golden Green paint?

I would find a way to have a local shop here in the Bay Area shoot glasurit. It's the only way to truly get the best factory color match. That's what I did. Send me a PM and I we can talk further if you like. Golden Green is such a great period color, much like my lime green 74 Carrera in that regard.

You might want to try a local Porsche shop. They may know of a contact for paint. Don Wise in Campbell or s car go in the North Bay. You could also go to the PCA night at Harry’s Hofbrau, the guys there have been around for ever. Lastly Superior Body Shop in San Carlos is a Porsche body shop

My 1969 912 Coupe was originally Golden Green; the paint tag in the drivers side door hinge post is stamped as "6828-L" the "L" designating Lesonal was the paint manufacturer. Maybe that's some help?

The most important thing is that the match is accurate regardless of brand. Do you have access to a sample of the original paint? If not can Wilhoit sell you a sample card of that color that you can take and hold up to a car and verify it looks accurate? If so it’s easy as you then need to find someone who mixes and matches PPG and have them mix and do a spray out that matches the sample that you have already verified is a correct match. Is a bit of a pain but it’s the only way. Going through this now on a ‘55 356 in silver. Bought a sample from wilhoit now time to find an original car and compare how accurate it is. If it’s good I can take a camera reading off of it and mix in sikkens paint line.

Thank you guys all for your help and suggestions. Thru a recommendation by John Wilhoit, I was able to speak with Shane down at East Autobody in Orange County and he sent me a screen shot of the Glasurit formula he uses to mix Golden Green 6828. I will spray out a couple of samples, including a match of the original paint I’ve got on the inner door of my car and try to pick the best one... I’ll post a pick in a few months.
