73 914 steering wheel in a 86 911

Hi y’all! I need to find the right part to get my 914 steering wheel... part number 914 20347 20809 20 00 to work with my 86 911 backdate.

Any links or part numbers or PM’s cause you have an extra one laying around would be greatly appreciated!

No can do - 911 steering column spline changed in '74. To use a 914 or early 911 steering wheel on your '86, you need to retrofit your steering column, if its possible, to an pre-'74 one.

Thank you all for the input! Looking forward to a solution. If not, at least a for sale thread!

That is an old wives tale. Porsche used the same splines on the steering column for all models (911,914,924,944,964,968,993) until they went to water cooling.

You probably still have the plastic adapter for the 914 column on the back of the steering wheel. If you remove it, it is identical to a 911 wheel of the same year.

I can tell you with no old wives around that the 924 and 944 are smaller bores and spline count. The 928, though, I believe is the same. Additionally, I think there is a difference in length of the steering shaft after 1973, but the bore and spline count are the same...

...taken a step further, that means your knuckles will be hitting the gauge eyebrow every time you try to turn anywhere past 30 degrees. ... That, plus, the eyebrow grew about 2 inches toward the driver in '74. The solution is to add a spacer, but that puts the wheel closer to your chest. - not an option for me.
