Crease in my Targa Bar (structural?) 1980SC

-working on the car, took out the inner trim, saw this, this is the driver side looking forward at the bar from the rear of the car

-red area looks like a clamp was there, there is a perfect circle area dented

-blue area has a few ripples that don't show as well in the pictures as they do on the car

-the passenger side doesn't show any of this type of feature and it doesn't look factory

-what are your thoughts? Damage that was repaired? How could it get hit that high and not damage below (I haven't finished stripping paint under there yet but will soon) Is it OK or should I change the bar out? Can't tell if it affects the rear targa window seal or the targa top seal as they were both totally dry rotted and leaked anyway

Do you have picture of the entire area? Hard to tell from what you shared.. Is it possible something just dropped on it from above at some point?

It's very strange for sure. It really doesn't look like it was from an accident..

It looks like what happens when you fix something bent all to hell.

Looks like a repair that was concerned about the outside appearance only....something fell on the car at some point?

1) what about structural strength, has it been compromised?
2) do you think it will have any effect on rear window seal or targa top seal?

No idea about roll over integrity...it could not help obviously.

If everything was lined up properly then there should be no issue with rubber/window seal and this is not new so if you do not see leakage issues probably just fine.

Lots of folks have no idea what lurks below their shiny paint jobs....

I just cut one off a targa for a coupe conversion, if no one else chimes in with a pic I'll get one to you. The bar is not as heavy duty as it seems when it's on the car. It looks a little fudged up to me but it can be fixed.

Off topic, but I just sent you a PM on the conversion you are doing, I could use some help as I'm planning on doing one myself.

out of interest what's the other side like?

Just wondering if its been lifted up by or pulled out a ditch by the bar?

Are you going to grind back the outside to see if there is much filler (bondo), a magnet or depth gauge would achieve the same if either are to hand!

other side looks correct to me and un-touched, yes completely stripping the car, so will find out what is learking underneath!
