How hard to take off all of MFI and shroud??
I started working on my car last weekend, thought I was going to just change the fan belt. Next thing I know, I've got the alternator out and I find a mouse nest on top of the cylinders 1,2,3. I clean all of that out, but to get in there I take off few pieces of sheet metal, and a few other pieces...
Now I'm wondering should I just remove the rest and clean everything and detail the whole engine compartment?? How hard is it to get the MFI off without screwing it up. Thanks |

Not difficult at all. However if you have a 72 or earlier MFI engine the shroud is a single piece over the oil cooler and has several rivets you will have to drill out to get the shroud off. Later shrouds are two piece with a separate piece over the top of the oil cooler.

Here's a pic where you can see one of the rivets on the gray part of the shroud:

Depending on the year ... it probably isn't practical to do it without pulling the engine! Not terribly difficult if you take plenty of digital or 35 mm pics and sequentially number & tag, bag all parts, and keep notes of everything you do as a running 'commentary' journal ... and put all of the removed parts together in boxes or a storage cabinet dedicated for the purpose! A '73 model could theoretically be done with the engine in place ... BUT, I wouldn't recomment it!!!
