901 trans
Hello all. Does anyone know where to reference a 901 trans serial # so the gear ratios can be determined. I need to find the lowest and closest geared tranny possible due to 33" tires. Car is a desert pre-runner with a stock 2.7 CIS motor. If anyone has a 901 trans for sale e-mail me details.

the 901/XX stamped on the rib below the diff housing is the clue. post it and i'll tell you what came in it originally. you may have to plot out what you have on a gear chart and see if any other ratios will improve it. i have a lot of good used 901 ratios.

John I have a 901/02 LSD out of a 66 912 in my 911, And at freeway speed I am running about 4200 RPM, Is that normal or is it because it is a 912 Box, I also have a 901/02 out of a 68 911 would they have the same ratio??

greg, the 901/02 had A,F,M,S,Z. going to a 914 5th (ZD) would drop the cruise RPM down as far as you could go. not a huge drop over a Z, but better. is your tire size stock, or smaller diameter? that affects ratio too. 4200 seems pretty high for 60 mph. maybe 70-75?

Don't have a 23 window but I do have a 65 Karmann Ghia type 34 1500s with factory electric sunroof 95% complete. One of the few models that is actually harder to locate than a 23 window. Not really for sale but money talks... And thanks for the info John. I'd like to find a good 901 that I didn't have to mess with too much and to work out any install probs before I have a close ratio box built. So if anyone has a good used 901 5-spd, let me know.

John I should Have said 4200 at 70 wich is what the traffic is going mostly or until Johnny Law is around then every ones all of a sudden doing 60 It's funny how fast that all happens, Tire size is 205/60/15
