3.2 owners - Dansk wants to know if you want 41mm SSIs
For those unaware, current SSI heat exchanges max out at 38mm outer diameter primaries. This has been acknowledged as large enough for a 3.0, but on the small end for a 3.2. A Dansk sales manager has confirmed to me over email that they are developing a larger 41mm version, but currently are only making this in conjunction with a “thin flange” exhaust port configuration which matches up to 3.0 heads.
When I asked whether they would produce a 3.2 version (thick flange), he said they have not committed to developing one but might/could depending on whether there was a business case. So if you would be interested in 3.2 compatible SSIs please respond to the poll. I intend to send this link to the sales manager to help him gauge demand. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1547386624.png |
Link to an accompanying thread that provides more detail on the new 41mm version:

Should there be an option "I would buy a thin flange version of the 41mm SSI's"? Or perhaps they have already decided there is demand.
It's really nice to see JP Group developing these products. A big thank you to them! |
It’d be a great option going forward.

Good thought Jonny, but since they have already made the decision to develop the thin flanged version I assumed they already had that business case closed. But you’re right as I am considering doing that so I don’t have to wait.

Thanks for your efforts Tony!

Lots of debate on the other thread about this but pretty sure the 38mm SSI's are well acknowledged to be a bit on the small side for a hot 3.2 carrera. That 3mm extra diameter should do the trick.

I'd do SSIs if I could pass emissions with them.

For me, I have a mostly stock street car. I actually drive it on the road, long distances. My plan is to drive my Porsche in all 48 states, maybe even add Alaska some day.
Whatever the exhaust system it HAS to have good normal heat, and not make a lot more noise than stock. Trust me, 12 hours of driving the stock noise level is plenty. I am planning a trip to Key West this summer. That is a long way from Oklahoma. |

I have driven that a couple of times from DFW. I now fly. I would never attempt it in a classic 911. My hat's is off to you...... That would be a brutal trip thru the keys if the traffic was bad. |
Don't forget the traditional SSI hot box inlets would also have to be altered so they are compatible with the standard 3.2 air distribution tube at the rear of the engine for the 41mm version to be viable too.

I'd be especially interested in it if there was a group buy. Most likely scenario for me is at the end of 2019, gotta clear some things out of the way but looking to make some changes to the car around then.

I'm game for a pair of these "big bore" SSIs for my '87, especially as part of a 3.4 build. I'd like to try pairing a water cooled GT3 muffler with them. Like this (only SSIs versus the M&K long tubes as pictured)...

^^
Would you cut and weld new connections to the backside of that box and seal the ends? SSI’s provide traditional connection points for most ‘dual in’ 911 silencers. Not much space to curve around to the sides. |

Was surprised we didn’t have more 3.2 owners that would buy (>80%). I thought there was pent up demand since regular SSIs were too small.
|
I think more people have not replied as they have been following the other thread talking about larger SSI's and been disappointed.
I want SSI's sized for a 3.6. That means 41mm ID min. Ideally that is 45mm ID.....not OD. |
I would be interested, given the price of course.
