Well, I just had my new 3.6L race engine tuned on a Dynapack dyno. We tried William Knight's Dynamax setup and then tried the custom "Phase 9" style mufflers that are a little larger than Pete Weber's Phase 9 mufflers.
From 5500 RPM on up to 8000 RPM, they pretty much made the same power and torque. But, the Dynamax setup was significantly better between 3600 and 4500 RPM and between 4700 and 5400 RPM. We saw as much 20 ft-lbs more torque with the Dynamax setup. The Dynamax setup sounded better and I think is a bit quite too. |
Winders--were you also using Williams headers? I am curious since I'm about to buy a set of his headers and most likely the Dynamax muffler to have a shop here in town fab up to the headers for me. Thanks

@JonT - Yes, I am using the headers William sells in 1 3/4”.

Here is a photo the final install after it got all hot:

winders any chance you have a video of your header and muffler setup? i'm working with William on the same dyno max muffler and would like to get an idea of what it sounds like (going on my 3.6) thanks

Had this one roll through to install a new Fabspeed Maxflow system. A great option for anyone wanting to increase Sound and Performance.

How much for the motor? knightrace@mac.com. I think it is listed in the wrong place but I figure I would ask.

GG Allin - Google Trident 720-10000L and 720-8000L
These are stainless steel t bolt clamps and the last part of the part number indicates the OD so 10000L is up to 10" and 8000L is up to 8". |
Yep - another one

I have had 1 one do this on a clients car, I have not had an issue where it is not over clamped but I hope Dynomax looks into this. There is no pressure in it the way the pipes enter it therefore it has to be a build quality issue. Thankfully it is not too common. William Knight

I will be running on my fresh 2.8 a 997 GT3 muffler with RSR headers from Brian(RarelyL8) on dyno soon. Also will run the M&K GT3 street muffler. See which will produce more HP.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1597183224.jpg

Anyone have experience with the Phase 10 muffler as compared to those mentioned so far.
I have one for sale. When a fellow pelican asked me how loud it was, I told him I didn’t have a clue. I got it with a lot of parts. Any insight on it as compared to those mufflers would be appreciated. Thanks |
We have a dyno comparison on Winders motor, The phase 9's are the same or very close to what you have, the peak HP was similar but the Dynomax had about 20 hp and 20 TQ more between 3k to 5k rpm range

My 17231 roughed in behind the motor that William Knight led me too last summer. Can't wait to drive this thing. Leaving the pipes a little long until the valance is put back on. Might trim them down, might not.

The funny thing is that M&k (when it was my brain child) was meant to give a similar sound and performance of a dynomax or flowmaster but in simplier packaging.. That was about 18 years ago now.. Wow time flys
