Fuel Pump failure.

After 30 years and 118 k miles, the fuel pump is starting to make unusual noise so it is time to change it.
While I am doing it, can anyone tell me if it is a good idea to change fuel tank screen? What else should I consider "doing while there"?

I would definitely run the gas down low and change the filter screen in the bottom of the tank. If it is clogged and restricts flow the fuel pump will burn out.
It will also allow you to see what shape the fuel tank is in. You can pull the fuel sender from the top of the tank and see if there is any corrosion in there. Check for any brittle fuel lines.
