Those that have seen a complete seal rebuild kit from Porsche/Brembo can attest to the kit including four things:

-Square cut pressure seal
-Dust scraper or boot
-Hard anodized piston
-Packet of grease

More recent kits i've seen have Kluber grease in them. Which is basically the same type of Sil-Glyde silicone grease that Shaun uses.

This grease helps get the pistons into the bores w/out hanging up on the pressure seals. The pressure seals are purposely shaped with a square cross section to grip the piston and retract it a tiny bit after you release the brake pedal. That tight fit & grip on the piston swipes off brake fluid and makes for difficult sliding of the piston within the seal. The grease is a MUCH better lubricant for inserting the pistons into the seals versus plain brake fluid.

I got some Centric brand seal kits (seals only, no piston, no grease) for a set of 964 calipers and they were a real bear to get the pistons inserted. I totally whiffed on using the grease I have on the shelf (mine is a tube of Dow Corning 111 that I had on bought for oil return tube o-rings years ago) and damaged the pressure seal pushing the piston in place.

Wow, those look awesome, I too have a few sets, maybe we can do some horse trading.

You have set the bar very high here!

Another set of Turbo calipers done. These were the roughest set I've gotten so far. We ended up replacing every single piston. They turned out well for a very special car.

Geronimo, do you mean THIS 32C? I do not recall getting a member #.
sadly I sold it last year, hated to but needed funds for my 930 project.

Yes, that's the 32C I mean.
Had to ask for my number after I saw a few members post their's. I did not receive it initially.

Window of my office-container on the construction site. :)
Too bad 32C never gained enough momentum.

Beautiful work Shaun!

I bet valve covers would look nice with that gray coating...

Eye candy for sure! Still hunting down a passenger side big fin so I can send mine out to you guy for this restoration! Keep up the great work!

Thank you Jacob, I'll be here.

Shaun, how hard do you tighten the 4 M12 bolts that hold together the calipers?

Cheers!

Johan

Shaun @ Tru6 01-06-2024 04:49 AM

Johan, from memory, it's 60 Nm, but please confirm that with a factory manual.

MIAdragon 01-06-2024 06:45 AM

Ballpark cost?

I will look on Monday Johan.

Make sure your pistons are in the right orientation before getting them together.

H-viken 01-06-2024 11:27 AM

Thanks Shaun

Dragon, I can tell you that the parts alone, needed for a full refurbishment, aren’t cheap. Ask me how I know

H-viken 03-12-2024 04:44 AM

I ordered 00004302000 and got Castrols Mollub-Alloy Paste TA. Can this really be the right lube to mount the pistons in the bores? Seems pretty thick

Johan

KTL 03-12-2024 05:41 AM

No that paste is anti seize lubricant for fastener threads. It’s not for use in lubricating piston seals. Piston seals use a silicone paste

Racerbvd 03-12-2024 11:23 AM

Anything I can trade you to do 3 of my sets?

Thanks Kevin, that’s what I suspected. It doesn’t like right coming out of the tube

Johan
