Through the Body Sway Bar Backdate

Here's the steps I took to convert my 74 to the earlier adjustable sway bar setup. Or at least the chassis mods needed to accept either stock or aftermarket ARB.

All my parts were homemade, but similar parts are available in the aftermarket.

Before:

I decided to add stiffening plates that tie into the neighboring wall sections. Here's the first plate

Roughed out with my plasma cutter:

Here's the nut plate before I put the center hole in:

The strengthening plates were made in two pieces to preserve the vertical or perpendicular factory depressions. These mock up parts ensured that the mount is square with the ARB

Here it is fully welded except I forgot to put the brake line bracket back on....easy.

Here's the full video on my YouTube channel if you want more detail tips and tricks!
Thanks for watching!

What are the advantages of a through the body vs. the standard external style front sway bar?

Bigger Swaybars are available and greater adjustability. Until Eibach released their new adjustable underbody bar, a through body was the only was to get an adjustable front bar.

I like how the factory stamping is there on all our cars years after the factory was doing thru-body sway's. Makes it easy to get the placement correct. I did mine with the fuel tank in place so I was reluctant to weld the reinforcement plates and the tank prevented it in fact. I hope there are no surprises later on.. down the road.
