				1988 911 cabriolet top troubles

I was just trying out my electric top when it tightened up so I decided to put it back down from about halfway down. I then heard this loud bang and the photos tell the story - I think it’s called a roof arch but it is a solid (or was) cast part. I’m not sure why it happened or what I should do, is it strong enough if I try and get it welded I did manage to find a new one online in Germany for only(dread) 700 euros. It does look as though it has stressed one of the other arms as well.

Mine broke about 15years ago. The factory only sold the whole bow which includes both right and left side. It was very expensive back then. So, I bought only the side needed from a dismantler for(I think a couple hundred), much less than the factory part. When mine broke, it also, tore the top. So, I took it to a shop and they fixed the tear and installed the part. BTW, I manually raise and lower the top know. The cost was $1000 then.

				Dismantlers

Thanks for that, anyone know any good dismantlers in the states or the UK as I have no hope here in Oz as I’m flat out finding any sort of used parts.

I think it is possible to weld the bow. I would have to check but I am pretty certain one on my old roof was actually welded. Where in Oz are you located? I assume you have access to a good shop?

Sorry mate I don't know anyone up your way. If you can't find anyone to help maybe contact ******** in Sydney they generally know their way around our cars.
