Accessory wiring help
I’ll be installing a gps tracker in my 87 930 which requires one of the leads to be connected to a power source when ignition is switched on. It also requires constant power and a ground. I’d like to have it in a relatively discrete location. The unit is about the size of a deck of cards. The leads on the unit are 6-10” long.
Can I get a recommendation on where the best sources for constant, ignition and ground hook ups might be? Thanks! |

tell us a little more about your car (year). Often the fuse panel has some accessories that are not part of your car, such as power windows or sunroof on the earlier cars. So, it's very easy to slide the wire in there. Similarly, the trunk offers many discrete locations, such as inside the smuggler's box or near the gauges or blower motor.

another option
the 3 wires you are looking for will be behind your radio and you can probably velco the tracker above the glove box

It’s a standard issue ‘87 930 with AC, sunroof and cantankerous 4 speed. I removed the radio but wires should sill be there. Would there be an “always on” hot feed there?

Yes, your 87 factory wiring would have constant power, switched power and ground at the radio location.

Source a $7 Scosche wiring harness (used to wire aftermarket head units without cutting the original harness) and use that to wire your GPS in-line without hacking your OE wiring.

Behind the passenger's floorboard you can find an after ignition +, a constant + and a ground wire. Lots of space and not to be seen.

Thanks everyone. I got behind the radio area and found a 6 pin connector with the green wire switched power. I could not get a constant power but need to check fuses:
![]() I also found these four connectors and hoping they are leads to speakers from a long gone radio. Any confirmation is helpful: ![]() Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Yup, those 4 connectors are for speakers
On the 6 pin connector, brown should be ground and red should be constant

Got it sorted. I found a harness that plugs into factory radio harness through Crutchfield. The constant power wire was dead due to bad fuse. Swapped a fuse in and voila, all worked. Thanks for the info and thoughts.
