CIS Air Flow Sensor position
 

The AFS plate has a specific position it needs to be in at the bottom of the cone.

The old 911 with CIS had a spring/clip you needed to bend but the newer ones had a screw to set the stop height.

Does anyone know how many threads out the screw needs to be, to be in the ball park. I am thinking 5 or 6 but am not sure and quite frankly removing the airboot with an engine in place is hard on my delicate hands.

Also is there a symptom you can spot if the plate is too high or too low in the cone?

I have a CIS book and that only says that if the AFS plate is too high at rest hard starting will result, but I do not really see how that can contribute to a hard start. I have always wondered if they wanted to say too low and mixed up downdraft with updraft sensors....

Surely once started a too low or too high at rest position can have no adverse effect as the height is controlled by air bypass and control pressure correct?

Top of the plate to very bottom of the cone edge, with fuel pressure. Screw position doesn't relate, you have to pop the boot and see.
