Fog Light Deflector Question

All,

While trying to adjust the oem fogs on my '82 SC, I realized that they were putting out different light patterns because one of the bulb deflectors appears to be on upside down (mounted below the bulb). How do I fix that - the housings on both sides are mounted corrrectly, but it appears that the "guts" of one have been flipped.

It looks like disassembly will be required but the how-to was not readily obvious.

Suggestions?

Each fog light "body" (the housing) has a tab in it. That tab slips into the reflector (can't remember if it's top or bottom).

Anyway, the reflector shouldn't be able to be installed upside down, but the whole fog light could be. Can you remove the light and rotate the whole unit with the mount?

No. The wire routing from the back of the fog light is the same on both lights and wires are too short to flip the whole unit

Hmm, that's right, the mount on the back is one way...

But if you take the lens off, you'll see that the reflector goes in only one way. (BTW, I have the same problem you do, just haven't take the time to figure it out.)

I only see one listed on the website, so it's not that there's a left and a right.

I'm going to head down into the basement and see if I can't locate my spares..

Okay, so I went down and looked at the spares I have...

I have a "set" that seem to be identical except that tab for orienting the reflector seems to be on top on one, and on the bottom on the other... One is obviously much newer and I think I have the same set on the car.

I think you may have two different year fog lights on the car. Can't be 100% about this, but in order to have the holes oriented properly on this "set", one light would have to be upside down, hence the reflector would also be...

Thanks for all the leg work, Chris!

Now you have me paranoid with the "different model year" comment. I guess it's pretty obvious as to WHY fog lights would ever be molested, but even though it's a high mileage car, this is the first hint that anything has ever been "fixed" on the exterior of the car...
