Adding resistance with LED bulbs...
 

Had all my light assemblies rebuilt with new LED bulbs. Love the brightness but having issues with turn signals, etc.
I remember issues at 914 world with LED bulbs and needing resistance in the wiring.
Anyone have instructions or help with how to do that?

It's the turn signal relays that need the resistance to function properly. There are relays specifically for LED conversions. I'm not sure if Pelican sells them, but they should be easy to find.

There are also workarounds. In addition to solid state relays, several companies sell inline resistors that provide the resistance the circuit needs for the TS relay to work. Go to the hot rod catalogs for this product.

Carmagic (Englebert) would probably sell you a SS relay that works with LEDs.

Carmagic, superbrightleds, etc all sell the correct flashers. In my experiences with a variety of classic cars once the flasher is swapped the dash/gauge lights for the blinkers tend to be the next culprit if things are not working as they should.

Yeah. I just bought an LED flasher on Amazon and keep the original safe, just because.

I used an EP-26 flasher for my LED turn signals on my '77 930.

Yes you need the EP-26 for it to work properly.

EP26 is readily available at many suppliers. Be sure to purchase only the ones made by Novita/TRIDON and it says "LED" on it.

It looks like EP26 was used in other applications and some are not LED compatible. The EP26 flasher on the left is not LED compatible and will hyperflash if connected with LEDs. I think both versions are made by Tridon although the correct LED one on the right is from Novita. Notice the similar colors on the packages.

Also the Novita EP26 does not drive the C2 pin. Early '70s 911's and 914's connect the C2 pin to +12V when flashing. C2 drives the common connection of the tachometer turnsignal indicators. With EP26 out of the box, both indicators will flash together and the indicators will cause the opposite turnsignals to light up gently.

For this reason, I resell EP26 with C2 pin grounded internally for compatibility for early '70s 911 and 914. www.spokeworksLED.com

I recently bought a new 4 pin flasher relay (914 & 911) from our Host because i had this problem. But it didnt solve the problem. :confused:
On reading your post, I test modified the old flasher relay by just adding a small wire to Earth from the C pin - so now its all good & working as original.

I should modify the new relay to work as intended, so how do you fix the Earth issue internally on a new relay with the cover off? Where does the C pin get its Earth from?

I'm not sure how the PCB in the flasher from Pelican is laid out so I can't comment on that.

The EP26 from Novita can be modified as shown below. There are 2 separate mods shown. The C2 spade connects on the bottom right of the PCB in the picture. Soldering a wire between the pins shown in yellow will ground the C2 pin permanently. This is what I connect for 911 applications.

The red wire shown is done for 914's from '74-'76 with a single L/R turnsignal indicator. The red wire connects C2 to 49a (+12V when flashing).

Not yet the REV gauge turn signal lights.
Do all lights need to be led for the NOVITA EP26 modification to work?

Carmagic. Got most of my LEDs exterior and interior from him. He supplied a relay as well.

I did buy a few of the interior overhead, number plate, glove box etc. at superbrightleds.com

Resurrecting an old thread here, but I want to make sure I’m attempting to do the right thing here.

I have a ‘72 911T and I replaced front/rear turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights with LED bulbs. Bought the new EP26 LED relay and everything works great except for the rear turn signals. No matter which direction on the turn signal switch I use - both rears go off while the correct one goes off in the front.

Will permanently grounding the C2 pin as shown in the yellow line on the image in above posts correct my issue or no?

Yes C2 pin must be grounded. What you see is likely ghosting where the opposite turnsignal also flashes. Likely both your turnsignal indicators in the tach flash together. It's the indicators which are powering the opposite turnsignal because C2 is not grounded. Grounding C2 should solve your issue.
