Porsche 911 Turbo: Is it worth 140,000?
FYI
http://money.cnn.com/2003/03/11/pf/autos/review_porsche_911_Turbo/index.htm Of course, they fail to mention that the gold chains, silk shirts and cheap cologne are NOT included in the price of the Vette, otherwise the two would be in-line price wise ![]()

Nope.
Saw one on the showroom floor 2 weeks ago with a sticker price of $143k. Drop the $43k from that figure and I think we're in the right arena. Observations: Orange peel (although minimal) present in the finish. Instrument cluster and instrument glass is still screwed up with its "polarized" lens effect (who signed off on that?). Not enough striking differences in my opinion on the interior from a Japanese car. Cosmoline slopped all over the bottom of the engine. All things considered, there is a tremendous amount of R&D, manufacturing tooling, labor, etc. that goes into these, but still overpriced IMO. And if that was enough, I sure as h--- wouldn't pay a "destination charge" on a $140,000 automobile... ![]() -BG

There's a GT2 in my local Porsche showroom, bargain priced at $181,000. It looks significantly fast.

Heck, I’m only 5 not 71!

Heck, If money wasn't a problem I would buy one, But then again I would also want a mint 356, a Lamborgini, not to mention a few other fine toys. I think I need to win the Lottery. Wake up Pat and smell the coffee. I need to get a discustingly wealthy life. I don't care what they say "you can buy happiness with enough money"

From sales figures (at least previous to this last year), Porsche has sold about as many Turbos as they can make. I believe the profit margin on the turbo is around 25%, but obviously there are plenty of people who will pay it.
Just for reference, though, try to think of a comparable car to the Turbo. About the closest I can think of is a Ferrari or Lamborghini, which start north of $300,000. So, if you look at it that way, the Turbo is a tremendous bargain.

I dig it. If I had the money I would buy one - why not!

A friend of mine just swaped in his 996 C2 -01 for 996TT -03 (with wads of cash inbetween). He's stil braking it in, but he promised that i could take it for a spin later this spring.
I just had time to give it a "static"-check out (it was snowing outside) but i must say it's a nice piece of equipment. It feels really snug, luxurios and quiet. (altough i don't like dual cupholder thing). If i had the cash? Well maybe not new one but car certainly feels "priceworthy" if you can say that for a car that costs 140k$. There were also a Ferrari 355 and expensive beemer (Z9) in same garage, which helped me get some balanced view at this stratospheric price-level. Biggest difference was comparing size of the brakes with other expensive cars, F355 front discs were very punny, it's laughable! (I think my 930 discs were bigger...) So much about "the feel"...i'll get back after real thing. ![]()

IMO, the 996 and Turbo design is equal to what BMW did to the 740 by bringing out the 745.
I'd have to think real hard on choosing a 996TT (Exclude the GT) over a 360 Modena Spider.

Hah! Love that soundtrack! Man that TT driver was err...not so proficient that day. Kinda scary how fiercely it pulled away on that straight though
