Need Ball Joint socket tool - Altanta
Hello All - I am in the process of going through my suspension rebuild and am having a tough time finding anyone with the SIR P210 Ball Joint Pin Wrench Socket in stock for purchase. Any chance someone in the Atlanta area has one I can borrow or someone that would allow me to borrow - I will pay shipping both ways and a gift card of your choice!
As an FYI - I have tried using the Autozone version that does not quite fit. Nor will a pipe wrench work. I have a Milwaukee cordless 1/2" Impact wrench that works great so once I have the proper socket they should fly right off. All of my parts come in on Friday so I am hoping to have this solved by then. If not, I may just have to take my A Arms to a Porsche mechanic and have them remove and install my new ball joints! Now that everything is out, I have replaced all of the A Arm Bushings, sway bar bushings, am upgrading to the Turbo Tie Rod Ends, swapping out my Boge strut inserts with Bilstein HD's and new Billstein's in the rear as well. Can't wait to dig in on the rear suspension bushings etc. as well. In advance - much appreciated. |
PM me your address. I have one you can borrow.

Taking them off is easy. Just use a dull cold chisel in one of the notches to loosen the locking ring and a pipe wrench to finish it off.
I assume you are replacing the locking ring. Then to tighten the new one a tool is required. There is a recent thread showing how to modify a large socket to work for the tool. Cheaper than the postage to send one. AHIK. |

Pelican JimmyT makes a beautiful stainless version of the factory tool, super reasonably priced and he's a gentleman to deal with. Art object and tool, all in one. See this thread:

A couple months back I was looking to borrow one and one of the guys here responded with this. I was able to go another route, but you may want to check this out... here was his post:

I used one I bought from my FLAPS, *I think* a Ford one, I found the recommendation to try it here on Pelican. IIRC the overall diameter was slightly bigger than required, but all of the splines lined up perfectly so it didn't matter.

Ball joint removal
I used a Milwaukee 1/2 inch Impact Wrench model 2767-20, the Sir P210 socket and it came off in less than a minute. tried with an !/2 inch breaker bar an it was imposible.
