Need help for my "brilliant" idea

Guten Morgen all, I woke up at 2am unable to sleep with a wild hair growing you know where. Its in regards to the rear window in my 911sc Safari build. I would like to make the rear window removable. I first saw this on a 959 Dakar tribute car, and it popped in my head with the future roll cage it will be much more difficult to pack the rear of the vehicle. In addition to making it removable, I would like to install a hinge, gas strut, and locking mechanism. I have searched all over the web since this wild idea, and am coming up unfortunately dry...

Im hoping in the vast pelican knowledge someone can point me in the correct direction.

Cheers!

If you want just removable, you could do a lexan window with Dzus or other quick release fasteners. If you want to do a hinged arrangement with a strut, you may need to reinforce the lexan window or it would probably be flimsy. Something like the GT Racing rear window frame (link below) and some 911R type decklid hinges might work.

Scott, great suggestion, and good point on the lexan an window reinforcement! I will look up some pictures to see how that is installed! Could fit the bill!

Early Mazda Rx-7 models (1978-1985) featured an all glass window with no metal surround. You may want to look at how they did the hinges, latch, & rubber seal for some inspiration.

I had a saab sonett III that was a super simple design. It had regular door seal style weather stripping and the hinges were like youd find on the trunk of an mg. The latch was just a peg like the engine lid. So if you can find someone to cut 3 holes in it a setup like that can be made. The mg style hinges wouldnt work though because of the roof overhang

This is how we do it at Rothsport on our Safari 964.
