Battery Advise 76 911S

Well, after 6 years, my boat anchor Duralast battery has finally died.

It was a 49-D 850 cold crank, 1000 crank amps, and it was the long heavy beast.

I need to go buy another one today, but need some advise on size. I read in another battery discussion thread here, that you can get a smaller battery, that will produce the same cold crank, and crank amps, without the weight, and tight fit.

Not really sold on the newer version Optimas, after reading the complaints on their longevity vs the older ones. and I'm really not worried about acid leaks and corrosion to the battery pan since I keep a very watchful eye on that.

Thanks for any and all help.

Checking the autozone website, it says this battery is for my year, make, and engine size.

Part Number: 42-DL
Weight: 27.2 lbs
Warranty: 7 YR
Notes: *** 500 cold cranking Amps (625 cranking Amps) *** 75 reserve minutes. -> 2 year free replacement <-

These numbers are lower then the one I took out. Is this correct ?

I have been getting mine from Sam's Club. My 81 took the boat anchor and the Sam'c Club batteries are smaller than this. We probably have the same battery size.

I just checked mine. It is Energizer E 48 with 700 CCA and 875 CA. My car has two bolt holes in the battery tray for the monstro and regular size battery. Hold down clamp is at the front of the battery. I am pretty sure I just bought the one off their application chart.

The lower CCA and CA worry me a little.Yours seems to be higher then the suggested one I looked up.

Is this a concern for me. I live in vegas, were the summers are hot(100 to 112), but the winters rarely get bellow 32.

Your car did not come with 850 CCA in 76, I bet.

Just get the one for mine. Or find the one they recommend for your car and bring a tape measure and get one that has some more power and the same size and hold down clamps. Does you car have the second bolt hole?

OK - You got some options then.

I would get something beefier than the duralast because that would be my choice. You car can work fine with the lower numbers.
