Rolled Front Fender Lip | Hand Tool Method
 

There are many ways to roll fenders, but I had the luxury of forming my fenders on a bench before paint.

I have a lot of respect for those of you who have done this without cracking the paint.

I was able to get a tight edge...about .175". That gives me almost a 1/2" of extra tire clearance from stock.

A small gap was left so I can protect it from rust and clean it out from time to time.

The problem w/ folding the lip like that is the dirt trap that is created, if not kept clean it will be source for corrosion.

You are much better off trimming the lip back w/ a body hacksaw

The lip pictured has been trimmed by half of the distance and rolled. I don't mind cleaning this area out every once in a while and I feel the rolled edge is much friendlier to my tires if contact does occur.

They grind down pretty easily too, rust inhibitive primer and touch up paint.

Rolling the fender lip is a common method of eliminating tire rub. However, not all owners are aware the trough created can trap road debris and moisture. Suggest adequate surface prepping, then fill the space with silicone caulk or equivalent weather-protective material.
