In the process of reinstalling the bits and pieces of the cruise control system, I crimped up a little extension piece for the clutch switch that seems to bedevil so many cruise control threads. This gets me a few benefits. First, I was able to bolt the switch back in with the extension already in place and then reconnect the wiring behind the floorboard without so many contortions and blind guesses. Second, I can disconnect the switch at the extension for easier troubleshooting during the next inevitable cruise control issue. Finally, like an in-line fuse on a footwell blower, the crimped terminals mean that the extension piece removes easily for returning the wiring harness to bone stock if the need ever came up.
