Fuel filter question
1979 911SC
Looking for a replacement fuel filter. When I go to the parts catalog with my car input it comes up with this one being correct for my car: Part #: 0-450-905-021-M14 However the customer reviews all say it will not fit as it comes and is not a direct replacement. I went through the Pelican online contact and they sent this part number as the one to use: Part #: 930-110-076-02-OEM That one has no picture or description really and is pretty expensive for a fuel filter. Also indicates non returnable and special order. Can anyone verify this is in fact a direct replacement that will mate to my existing lines in the car? Or suggest another one that is a direct replacement. Thanks |

Remove or rotate the existing fuel filter to find the part number, write that down, and order a few of them. I replace my fuel filter annually, so always have a few on hand.

Goodness that was so obvious. Seriously never would have thought of that. Must have inhaled to many fumes taking it off. Thank you!

Fuel filters..........
Quote:
Scott, Do you know what brand of fuel filter you have now? For your information these Bosch fuel filters have the following specifications: Bosch -003/-016: Inlet = 14 mm x 1.5 mm Outlet = (same) Bosch -021/-079: Inlet = 14 mm x 1.5 mm Outlet = 12 mm x 1.5 NOTE: The difference for the outlet side. Make sure you buy the fuel filter/s with the correct OUTLET spec. or have an adaptor handy. Tony |

ok went down and looked it is a Bosch 0 450 905 016 which best I can tell does not seem to be available any longer. So that takes me back to my original question.
I am not experienced with dealing with adapters. Is the original one Pelican suggested correct? I don't see many specifics on it either. Thanks |

I had the same issue when ordering from Pelican - wrong outlet, as Tony expressed. I ended up sending it to the first person to pm me, as wasn't worth the hassle to send it back. Found the correct one for my '79 at CarID

Fuel filter.......
Scott, Contact CarId and ask for Bosch fuel filter (0-450-905-016). They still advtertise this item for sale. Or go visit your local auto stores like NAPA and they will gladly assist you. I have some good luck finding Bosch products thru NAPA stores. Tony |

The other thing is that sometimes it is only the threaded adapters on the filter body that are not correct.
If this is the case, you can just reuse the fittings from your old filter with the newer washer from your new filter.

I have my local Napa getting me a substitute brand for $17. Gonna try that and see if it fits for 1/3 the cost. |

This filter, mentioned above, costs $52 from our host:
https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/0450905016.htm?pn=0-450-905-016-INT Other than this website page, this filter (016) is NLA. $52 is silly money for a fuel filter. Some say the 021 filter is the replacement, but many say it does not fit. Here is my question: Has anyone definitively figured out whether an adapter is needed in order to use the replacement 021 filter and, if so, where can I find this adapter?

I went over to R O C K A U T O (https://www.R O C K A U T O.com/en/catalog/porsche,1979,911,3.0l+h6,1262595,fuel+&+air,fuel+filter,6200). They list a few (not Bosch) filters ranging from $5.38 to $12.23). I am sure they will fit. The BECK/ARNLEY 0430660 looks like it is a replacement for the Bosch -021 unit.
You may need to reuse the fittings on your current filter to ensure a correct connection to your fuel lines. The fittings should last forever and all you may need to replace is the crush washer.

No. Based on what I have read, the fitting on my 016 filter will not screw onto the 021 filter. I may be wrong, but it sounds to me like I need a filter and a new, different, adaptor.
The car is a 1978. I think 1979 is similar, and perhaps others.

I have used a number of different filters on my 1973.5. As a result I have a box of fittings that I swap around as needed. Not sure what is near you, but a shop that makes hose lines and fittings (like Oil Filter Service near me in Portland) should have a rack of them where you can buy what you need. The issue is the removable fitting on the filter body.
