Looking for 911 Header Fabricator

Hi,looking for a 911 header fabricator to make a few sets of special sizes. Thanks Fred

TimT 03-04-2019 02:18 PM

Peter Dawe has 3-2-1 bowl of spaghetti headers made, I don't think he does it in house, maybe if you get in touch with him, he could hook you up with someone.

pkabush 03-04-2019 02:22 PM

Hey Fred,
Have you tried Brian ((rarlyl8) ? He does quite a few custom exhaust systems.

jac1976 03-04-2019 02:24 PM

Not certain if they do one-offs, but Brian and Rarelyl8 do great work, are accommodating and have incredible customer service. I’d drop them a line.

Geneman 03-04-2019 02:50 PM

rarlyl8 is the best!

Headers

I saw Peter the other day and his guy is next door and busy.Likes to just make what he does for Peter.I need someone to copy my designs as my fab guy of 40 years passed away.Keep them coming. Thanks Fred

fabrication

I will contact Rarly as well. Thanks for the input.I contacted a local Nascar fab shop here in NC today and offered them a gutted 911 engine for a jig but they are smoking the gold leaf bud from never neverland.Ciao

I've used s-car-go

Helix8 03-04-2019 04:10 PM

Steve Timmons (Instant-G) has a fabricator that made headers to my specifications - I’m very happy with the results

RarlyL8 03-04-2019 04:34 PM

Glad to help if we can, already have several 911 mule engines to use and 911 header fixtures. Shoot me an email and we'll see what can be done.

bkreigsr 03-05-2019 12:45 PM

Fred, I used these guys to build me an exhaust for my 912E, (when no one else wanted to go near the project.)

Talk to Denny - owner.

I've seen Fred's headers many times. The design has a few top secret tricks... Very pretty piece of kit. Fred's design makes more power than anyother header out there...

I heard the set he has on his rule changing, moly tube space frame, twin plug, slide valve injected SS 2.8L 914-6 race car... Sound is awsome! And over 375 HP at the crank at 9,300 RPM. Exhaust scavenging plays a big part in this high output from a SS 2.8L...

+1 for S Car Go.

The header fabricator there is legendary. I used a set of his parts for quite a while, and a great friend had some made not too long ago.

That fabricactor is, the last time I checked, the tech editor of Excellence.

Another other "old school" fabricator I know of is Pete Weber at Quiet Horsepower. Not far from where I live.

Also legendary.

Both of these individuals are top notch as is their work.

Having built a few sets myself, If you are starting from scratch, new engine and car, the curve is steep. Over pricing is their way of saying "go away".

exhaust scavenging

I see a lot a of great builds on here with being finished off with a lackluster because that is what was available to them. This sytem will add 15-20 bolt on HP and breathe better all the way up.No flat spots at 3-4,000 rpm.Coming soon with heat as an option.Fred

Keep letting us know about availability. Exploring options for my 3.0 72 build right now.

I am interested. I have a feeling Brian may have something in the works, too?

On 914world, check out user mb911 (Ben). He is making beautiful 914/6 heat exchangers.

gt-3

Looking for a GT-3 MUFFLER to put on this set of headers as well. Thanks Bump

MST0118 03-07-2019 02:56 PM

I’d be interested in your headers Fred. You’vr mentioned the mathematical formula based on engine type and using Burns type collectors. Will your headers also be custom to each engine? Sell in pieces or do they come welded as 1 piece?

faapgar 03-07-2019 03:44 PM

headers

Hi,thanks for your question. They will come ready to bolt on according to your engine size. Thanks Fred

Mahler9th 03-07-2019 04:43 PM

Ok, so now I read more... you are looking for someone to make your designs...

Longshot: I think the water-cooled guys at Sharkwerks have some of their own designs. I think only water cars-- so likely no competitive situation.

I do not think they have their stuff made in house.

Not sure about volume.

But in the interest of common love for things Porsche, it might make sense to give them a call as part of your networking.

jmz 03-07-2019 04:45 PM

Will you be making any for 914/6?

manbridge 74 03-07-2019 04:48 PM

I believe I could donate a GT3 muffler if you’d consider letting me be a header beta tester for my 2.7 RS? I can email you some pics....

We have a 914/6 section which includes headers and heat exchangers.

Crazy numbers from a 2.8. How many hours would something like this be good for between rebuilds?

faapgar 03-08-2019 07:55 AM

life of a 2.8

I took the first one apart at 60 hours.Just replaced rod bearings which looked great.Center main was drilled to feed #2 & 5.Lapped the valves in.Has Ti rods & valves so less stress.Leakdown was excellent and left the rings alone.Has great oil cooling and has heating coupler to warm the oil.Well babied. After its first dyno run engine was taken apart for full inspection because of the build.Only change was to add a dowel pin in the crank for the flywheel.2nd one has never been apart but it is young yet.Fred

If Ole @ WeldingWerks in Orange CA hasn't early retired yet, he has welded many a custom spec header.
