Is there a trick to putting cable harness connector/grommets back in their holes ?

As per title, I'm at the point where I need to put the cable harness back in to my car however, it seems impossible to push the connector/grommets that go through the body work back in to their respective holes e.g. like the ones at the rear corners of the engine bay where the rear light cable harnesses come through the inner wings and connect to the main cable harness.

Any advice very much appreciated.

Cheers
Mark

Squirt of silicone or favorite lube, push the bottom in first, small plastic trim tool and work around pushing as you go with attention to make sure you don’t poke through the grommet. A round pick tool can help, you are trying to push the outer edge through the hole just enough for the middle to seat and seal. Be careful not to stab yourself...

I wonder how the factory does it? I had to do that once, and I gave up, it was way too much stress on the wires and I didn't want to risk damaging them. And I had the engine out!

Silicone lube, hot air gun to soften the rubber.

As Chuck questions, I bet there must be some sort of tool, as I can't see them in the factory messing around with lube and heat guns for production.

I'll give it a whirl though.

They are dealing with brand new rubber, there is no tool just push and twist.
