993 buddy saves my weekend....long.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day here in NoVA. I had planned to caravan out to the track (a beautiful 1.5 hr. drive in the countryside) with some other local Pelicanheads and just have a great time. I mean I was REALLY looking forward to this. Having had my car down with the engine swap and suspension work for 2 mos. and all this snow, I was soooo ready to get back in to the fun run groove. Besides, I wanted to see Doug E do his first DE. Now I'm having mixture problems again, car is getting checked out and wrench called at 5:50pm on Friday to say there was no way it was gonna be done before next week. My heart just sank.

Sat. I still drove out to the meeting spot in my trusty truck. There I met up with Maurice and Ted, whose cars just filled me with more Porsche-envy. Then William T showed up in his gorgeous silver '95 993 cab. I had forgotten he was even coming, so that was a nice surprise. I left my truck behind and rode with him out to Summit Point. We had a pretty "spirited" drive out there, got to the track and had a great time watching the event and hanging with all the great folks in the paddock. So despite my lack of car, I was still getting my weekend Porsche fill. After a few hours, William asked me if I wanted to drive home!!!!!

I hadn't driven a 993 since long before I got my Carrera, so this was quite a new thing for me. What a rush! We had another "spirited" drive back to Herndon. I'm not much of a cab person, but it was tough not to love it yesterday. We were just shootin' it, having a great time, driving ridiculously fast, listening to that mechanical music, etc. When I got back to my truck I realized I had been in a great mood all day long, whereas I had been so bummed that morning and previous evening.

I know life is pretty easy when my only worry is not having my weekend Porsche toy to play with. But I was seriously bummed and yesterday turned into a super fun day. I can't wait to do it again. Whoever has a Porsche down or in the shop when the next fun run comes up can ride with me!

Man Richard that sounds great! Today I handed over my car to Harald and had a friend in his J Spec Fairlady 300ZX follow me up and provide transportation home. Mike's Z is very quick and the ride home was great, but the thought of going without wheels for two weeks sucks...then Mike tells me I can use his Grand Am for the time my car is down and that he will take me up to Haralds when the time comes to pick up my car! Good Friends are hard to find sometimes, and then once in a while you find a GREAT FRIEND.
