Distributor Rebuild on a SC, need some advice

I having my machinist rebuild my distributor and he is uncertain on the shaft is removed from the pickup/ magnet coil. It has some corrosion internally and wanted to ask prior to applying any pressure to it. Also looking for the end play of the shaft for the shims. Would anyone have an exploded view of the distributor they could share?

The distributor had more corrosion on the interior then the whole car. One of the advance pucks was locked up solid. So it very much needed attention.

Thanks very much for the assistance.

Yes, that shaft should be removed.

Here is a good rebuild thread: Distributor service (Clean and lube) real easy without removing the pinion gear!

Here's some additional information your machinist may need from 83 sc distributor.

The Distributor Repair Kit, 1-237-010-007-INT, has the shims that are needed to rebuild a distributor but you need two of them to get two fiber (phelonic) washers.

83 SC Ignition Distributor Bushing Replacement has a good procedure on rebuilding the distributor.

Thank you for the quick and informative response. As I suspected the spider assembly is frozen on to the outer shaft assembly. He is going to soak it more before he attempts to disassemble further.

Thanks again, Jeff

There is a small circlip holding the trigger spider on the shaft. Also a pin locates it.
