Fog lights wiring and operation

I have owned my 81 SC for a couple almost two weeks and have been working on the fog lights wiring.
First, were fog lights standard or were they an option?
The wiring on my car is utilizing a non-factory relay and I thought the wiring was rather wonky, meaning looked like a total add on and ugly work.

I’ve been studying the wiring schematic for an 81 and it looks like the fog lights can operate with the light switch in”park” setting as well as operate with the headlight switch in “headlight” position, with the low beam only.

However, if the headlight switch is pulled to first notch, or park, and the fog light switch is pulled, the fog light switch would send power “backwards” to the number six fuse, low beam headlight and turn it on, which isn’t correct.

So, do fog lights really come onwith the headlight switch in park mode or is the schematic wrong?

Many thanks, Charles in Dallas.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1552954863.jpg

Is the non factory relay for the fogs or the headlights? You may want to post photos.

Many of us use the JWest relay to reduce the load from the headlights. I have seen them also used for the fogs.

I could be wrong but I believe for 81, fogs were an option. Do you have a COA with the car?

On the fogs operating with just the parking lights, that was an option in Europe. It wasn't (probably still isn't) legal in the US. But you just need to switch a couple of wires around, and you can run the fogs with just the parking lights.

Here are the instructions from the factory manual. The handwritten notations are for my 1979 SC:
