82sc delete line caps?
 

Doing a heater back date and AC delete to clean up engine bay. Had the AC evacuated by local shop now want to remove compressor an thingo on the deck lid but would like to just leave hoses in place and cap them off. Are there threaded caps available to securely do this rather than wrapping in tape or a ziplock bag. I asked local AC shop and he said they dont have anything or know of.

Can someone direct me to a source from where I could order them?

The hoses are most likely no good anyway. I'd remove them. It's not going to help the looks of the car either.

When it comes to modding the car I am a moderate kind of guy - dont want to do anything that adversely takes it far away from stock, or not reverseable. To take out the hoses dont you generally just cut them out into pieces. What happens if/when I sell the car what is involved to put AC back in - sounds like it would a gong show installing things from scratch.

Any advice on buying caps?

Sell it to someone who doesn't care about the AC.

So no caps available? I can cut hoses out anytime so while I ponder would appreciate best way to cap. In the short term I was planning to remove the AC hardware and have the bits to do heater back date before I roam around the motor fixing my hot start problem, new fuel accumulator/filter, possible vaccuum leak. Also picked up a sweet set of SSI's and MK 2/1 I hope to install before driving season - got alot on my plate already.

Google "A/C Line Block Off caps".

Lots of them available, though they may not match your original fittings, don't know. You will have to sort through them.

Capped or not, those lines are quite old and were never ideal for modern refrigerants anyway. If someone wants A/C in that car, they're not going to go through the effort to try to resurrect the A/C with those line (assuming they are putting it back because they want cool air). I'd remove them. After I got my 84, I wanted my A/C to work, so the first thing I did was remove the entire system including lines, replaced everything and then built the whole thing back up.

I pulled my AC hoses out intact, it wasn’t that hard.

Do it all at once. I did all of this last summer. I did the SSI install(also have the M&K 2-1, LOVE it) heat backdate, removed AC lines and the last remnants of the system and fixed my crushed oil line.

A little wiggling, but the hoses come out without cutting. Much better than leaving them to dangle in the engine bay.

If I remember correctly I pulled them out from the middle. I had to take off the plate that covers the fuel pump up front to get the ones that go through the smugglers box The ones in the engine bay I had to reach around the CIS and give it some help. I think it would go more quickly with someone pulling and another person feeding/wiggling them from the engine bay.

Ok, thanks all - great feedback. The car had the AC overhauled in 2007 - new everthing except lines, and was noted in records a few years later the system had leaks so maybe the lines are toast. when I had it evacuated tech said there were only a few ounces of r12 in the system.

Last question to the group as I decide how to move forward. I dug into the receipts from the PO. In May 2007 there is a receipt for new compressor, dryer and expansion valve and flush recharge. Then in Oct 2007 from another shop he had an inspection done and they noted the AC system may have a leak as it was blowing 77 deg. I bought the car in 2014 and the AC didnt work then.

maybe. you'll only be able to find out when they're out anyway to check clasping and all. don't bother. rip it all out.

and together with ditching the dry-cartridge in the fron wheel well and the condenser in the smuggler box you gain a lot of weight loss!!

I weighed all the junk I ripped out and I think it was close to 70lbs.

Most likely you have a local AC supply store near you. Just drive over and tell them what you need. They will have them for cheap.

I removed my AC without cutting a single hose as well. Not difficult at all.

Not really - I asked the only AC shop in town and they had nothing, would have to venture into Vancouver
