HELP // Identify this fuel hose

Hi everyone,

I backed the '79 out today to a small patch of fuel by the left front tire. On inspection inside the left front wheel arch I found this broken hose, also soaked in fuel.

Can anyone help me identify this. I can't find anything in Heyes and I don't have then Bentley. I think it is the fuel breather hose but if anyone could help confirm or deny this I'd be so grateful!

Thanks
dK

You should have two tanks behind the left headlight, one is your wiper reservoir, the other is an expansion chamber for you fuel tank.

Item 1 below is your fuel expansion chamber. ROW cars vent the expansion chamber at 20 to atmosphere. US emission cars vent the expansion chamber to a charcoal canister in the engine compartment via hose 21.

Your broken line should be 9mm ID, 14mm OD. (#'s 6,7,8,9). Pretty sure your broken hose is #6, Porsche P/N N 020 359 1

or 4mm ID, 7mm OD (#16,17,21)

You might need to remove your wiper res to get to the expansion chamber which is a PITA.

Chances are the entire evap containment system is rotted out so all the hoses may need replacing. Ours were completely rotted out so I did them along with all the fuel feed, return, and CIS hoses during the resto on my wife’s 79SC.

You can trace one of the hoses back to the fuel tank, via a metal tube that passes through the fender/frunk by the fuel filler tube. The other sneaks behind the fuel tank, through the firewall into the driver’s footwell, and then into another metal pipe that runs through the shifter tunnel. That pipe exits at the engine firewall and another hose runs from there to the carbon canister.
