where to get a lock rekey kit? (wayne?)
I decided it was time to rekey my locks - but now i can't find the kit! In Waynes book (project 76) it shows the cost as being about $35. Sounds great, but where do i get it? I looked all over pelican, but i may have just missed it. Thanks a lot!

You have to make one out of used locks. Unfortunately, we're out right now...
You can sometimes rekey the doors by swapping the pins within your lock set... -Wayne |

i had the same problem. i discovered that new barrels were cheap enough from porsche. |
I have a question: My key fits the ignition, glovebox & hood lever. This is great, but I've found that I have a factory alarm installed (previous owner didnt even notice the keyhole which I did the first time I opened the door) but the ignition key does not fit. I'd rather not change all my key locks. Is there another way? Wayne?

I to have the factory alarm with the missing key. The problem with the alarm key lock it has a resistor attached/build into it for the alarm module to operate properly. I plan on eventually changing the setup to be operational but not use the key. It is one of those project that will get done during my restoration. That won't be until I start putting the doors back on the car.

If the lock cylinders are out, take them to a locksmith and get them rekeyed to match the ignition.
I did this after someone broke into my truck a few years ago, and it cost under $20. If you only are going to do it once, the kit seems like a waste to me. Tom |
So if I removed the alarm lock itself, I can take it and my ignition key to a locksmith and they can rekey the lock to fit my ignition?
|
I don't think the alarm and ignition can work off the same key. I base that on what the alarm key switch looks like on the outside. It just doesn't look the same to me.

i don't know about the alarm key but i had mismatching keys in my car and a passenger door i couldn't access. i took my ignition key and door tumblers to local locksmith and had them re-key the tumblers to the ignition key. result: one key system and a passenger door i can open for the wife. $17.50 per tumbler and done during a lunch break.
