Alternator ID - Bosch or Marchel?
I have a 3.0 engine from a 1978 SC I’m putting in my 70 911E. I’m trying to figure out what voltage regulator I need to buy. I gather it has to be matched to one of the two alternator types used. Problem is, there’s no identifying label or stamp or anything apparent on the alternator, and I have no idea how to tell the two apart.
Any ideas on what I have and what the visual differences are? Thanks, Bob

Decide if you want it outside or inside.
The latter was an upgrade per Porsche. https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/849187-alternator-w-external-regulator-convert-internal-regulator.html#post8461133 |

It's a 70 amp Marchal alternator.

Good to know. Thanks very much. Now I just have to figure out how to get it out of the fan housing to tidy it all up.

Tap the housing on a block of wood a few times all the way around. The alt will fall out.

2 wood blocks with enough clearance (2x4) to allow the alternator to continue to drop after the housing is dropped against the wood blocks. Sometimes totakes several drops.
