I need help adjusting shifter coupler.
I have replaced all the bushings and installed the factory short shift kit. 2nd gear is a little easier to shift to and the short shifter is great. My only prblem now is that 4th gear is hard to go into, sometimes. I keep re-adjusting and that doesnt change. It feels like 2nd used to where it feels like it is binding before it get into gear. Would adjusting the coupler front to back or side to side help to correct this?

I just did the short shift and new bushings project. You will find that adjusting the coupler on the splined shaft changes the side-to-side orientation of the lever. I had mine too far over to one side and it was difficult to get into 1st & Reverse (1970E). There is plenty of room for adjustment at the coupler, play with it until you get the feel you want.

I keep trying to do my coupler bushings but my problem is the retaining bolt that keeps the coupler on the shaft.
What size is it? I have tried metric and english allen keys and either they are to loose or do not fit at all. Regards, Scott |

Are we talking about the little pin bolt on top of the coupler or the 13mm or so hex bolt that clamps the thing to the transmission shaft? If it's the pin on top, its metric and yours might be stripped... No need to overtighten this thing when you put it back together, perhaps somebody got a little heavy handed with it last time...? -BG |
