Need help from CT area Pelicanheads

Hey guys. A good friend of mine has a 67 VW beetle like mine that only has 40,000 original miles on it. The car is nearly perfect with original paint and interior. He needs the rear fenders touched up on the bottom where the P.O. had some accesory gravel guards installed. Does anyone know of a quality body and paint guy who can blend this paint and not only match the color but also the patina. John is extremly anal about the paint on this car and wants it done in laquer so that it matches perfectly. He is willing to pay extra for the trouble this would be. Can anyone recommend a resto shop willing to take on this project? Thanks for any input

mercedes dealerships have the best booths, spray systems and talented artisans. the local dealer in knoxville paints a 1000 times better than any factory job i have seen.

gravel gaurds on the front fenders? if so, he could take the front fenders off, it would be much cheaper.

sorry for a stupid question, but where bugs of that era powdercoated and not sprayed? or was that just the pan?

what part of Connecticut? I'm in the NW corner of Ct / SW corner of Massachussets. There's an excellent shop in N Egremont Mass (near great Barrington)

They seem to specialize in difficult work. They are also rather oddly picky about what they work on, ie the job has to be one they want to do. I would think though that there are a lot of shops closer to Stratford than coming all the way up here, esp as there's a whole community of vintage car owners in that part of Ct. I sent the number to yr pm address.

Automobile Associates in Canton CT, one of the best in Porsche restoration, not sure if they will do VW. Worth a call they are not cheap but they are very good.

I would second the vote for Automobile Associates. His # is: 860.693.0278. If he's a no go, then I might call the Mercedes dealership in Fairfield-their worl is good. I'm not sure, but they used to go by the name Continental Motors. Also, try a firm in Fairfield called Traynor Auto Body.

Just some thoughts- he'll have to use his judgement, of course!
