Engine mounts - M8 side bolts

Are there any tricks to removing the 2 M8 bolts that fix each engine mount in place? I can’t find anything specific to these bolts (lots on the M12s). How do you get a wrench on the nut below?

Thanks.

I have but can't remember what i used to get to them.
On reassembly I seem to remember having to put a dab of grease on a finger, stick nut on finger, and reach under then thread bolt onto the nut.

Did this recently, I think I used a small box end wrench or swivel head wrench to jam the nut as I tuned bolt above. Taped the box wrench on one side to hold nut when re-installling.

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.

OldSpool,

I used a 13-mm sockets for both top and bottom nuts. The key is having a flex ratchet for the bottom nut. Do you need to see what I used? Keep us posted.

Thanks all. It’s really the inboard ones that have such limited access. I have flex ratchets and ratcheting box wrenches and I can be stubborn so this should be the winning combo.

I’ll send along updates if useful for others.

Thanks again.

Looks like dropping the engine slightly while keeping main M12s somewhat engaged might yield the needed clearance. More to come.

Done. Not too bad. Drop the engine slightly to make more room for ratcheting box wrench to grab nut on bottom end of M8. Torque and then jack back up, torque M12s.

I just used an smaller ratchet and it took a really long time with lots of scraped knuckles. Getting the new nuts started wasn't fun. Taped a magnet to my finger for the nuts, still wasn't fun. I also changed the hardware, something nicer from Belmetric. Washers on both sides, good grip length and self locking nuts..

Dropping the engine 1-2 inches was the trick. All done and happy. Quick shout out to Clint at Rebel for fast shipping, responsiveness and great customer service.

I'm sure this will start a discussion. Your washers are on upside down! Concave should face away from the mount.

I just realized something. The new M12 bolts I sources are 90mm not 95mm. I drove the car and all seemed well. Will the 5mm difference be an issue?

Thanks

So how exactly do the motor mount washers go?

Any consensus on this? Concave up or down....

Believe Porsche put out a bulletin on this indicating concave up for compliant feel and down for firmer. I saw the bulletin recently on Pelican but can’t find it.
