tips on removing transmission mounts from crossmember?

'87 cab--replacing all mounts--motor mounts done.

Transmission crossmember out, but mounts appear to be pressed into aluminium crossmember. It's a saturday on holiday weekend--no press available. Any ideas on getting the old mounts out without damaging crossmember?

update--all done, including transmission mounts..not as bad as I thought, but take your time...

I believe the trans mounts on G-50 cars require special tools for removal. I think you have to send the whole cross member into Wevo or similar and have them press them out and install new ones. Someone here can confirm that, but it's not as straightforward as the 915s if I remember correctly

I recently replaced the 4 large washers on my 87 but rubber pad appeared to be OK and didn’t want incur additional cost or downtime. The G50 shift rattle and smoothness improved after my repair. Make sure you support the transmission when removing mount and watch washer orientation and placement. They are not the same. That’s original cosmoline you see on the rear mount.

Alex....too late; already fixed it.

I got my trusty drill out and went at it. It helps to enjoy a good La Gloria Cubana Serie R No.6 whilst doing this (it's important).

The crossmember mount location is shaped similarly to replacement mounts, in that they are more conical towards their center, so be careful with the drill--I suspected that, so there were minimal scratches caused by my drill bit. I adrilled around the center metal shaft, pulled it out then was able to remove the remaining rubber.

The crossmember on my car had a dimple on the side facing the tranny to assure the crossmember isn't installed backwards...Ask me how I found THAT out; yet another reason to take your time and finger tighten all the connectors before screwing everything down tight.

I had the car jacked up on one side, with an additional jack supporting the front end of the transmission, so the whole works was twisted. It was necessary to adjust the transmission several times by 1/4" increments to get the 4 transmission mounting bolts and the 2 larger mount bolts started. The 4 studs positioning the transmission screw into the aluminum tranny body so it's important not to force anything, or you will strip the threads in the transmission casing. After dropping the car so the body was no longer twisted, all the connectors aligned up; I finger tightened all 6 bolts/studs further after hosing all down with WD-40, then torqued everything back to spec.
Don't know if this fixes vibration, but my guess is it's a proper 1st step.

Yeah used a number of potions in my attempt to clean it up! I’m going with the patina of the original cosmoline😳 I’ve heard about dry ice removal. Will need to investigate.

Hi guys, I lost a bolt on one side (saw this today when looking underneath the car) and consider replacing my mounts as well.

So, drilling in the rubber makes it easy to get it out, right? But, how hard is it to get new ones in there? Are the rennline mounts the way to go for a street-used G50 Carrera?

Bump on a good question, how much improvement have people seen with shifting after going to new mounts?

Isn't the large concave washer installed on the wrong position?
