Durant mirror options / recommendation
Can anyone help me select a reasonable quality Durant mirror?
I’m struggling to find one and be sure that it’s not going to rust, stay where it’s angled etc. From what I’ve read so far, I should look for one with a convex mirror. They seem to go from $30 to $390, so there seems to be quite a selection. They say you get what you pay for, but sometimes, you don’t need the most expensive! I looked on the host site (as they are typically a safe bet / honest about part quality) but could only find the rubber bases. It’s for a hot rod, so originality is not an issue. Thanks for any recommendations! |

if you want a Durant mirror that actually works, then you have to get an original part. The range of motion was significantly less / inferior on the reproduction that came on my 1970T. The old original mirrors are identified by the logo - the 3 stars go deep into the "Made in Germany" text. Two of the stars are almost touching the A in Made and the A in Germany. I guess its possible that some reproductions are better than others, but many on these boards agree that the reproductions are form over function. The pic below highlights the difference in range. The Reproduction is on the Left and the original is on the Right, and both are set all the way IN. The adjustment range is greater in all directions with the original.

I recently put on on my 71T (PO had put the later 72+ mirror on it).
I purchased a Dansk, it was very poor quality Bought the Porsche branded version, much nicer quality and looks right. Part# 90173111101 Last edited by spyerx; 03-30-2019 at 06:36 AM.. |
