Use BBS-LM "street wheels" for racing?
Hello brain trust. does anyone know/ can comment on using BBS-LM 2 piece forged aluminum wheels for racing? I have a set lying around ( bought from mpetry here long.ago) that i would like to put Hoosier wets on and use for vintage racing with a 74 RSR 911.
i will have to replace the existing inner with a wider TI or MTI BBS racing inner anyway, but i am wondering if the Aluminum center is suitable . I have two sets of "real" BBS mag. E26 wheels which have been great. thanks very much. frank BTW i used these LMs in my DE days but i think the stresses on me and the wheels were much less) than in racing..

Those wheels are heavy, but robust.
I used to DE with 17" zuf wheels and switched to BBS LM on nittos, immediately felt the difference due to the extra weight. +7 pounds. So if you are looking for lap time, I would say look elsewhere.

thank ian . very good to know they are track worthy,. its strange because i started tracking in DE with ruf 17 inch wheels on my 88 911 carrera street car just like you. i thought the rufs, which are a cast wheel were much heavier than these LMs. never weighed or compared times, just used an apparently poorly calibrated arm !. cheers . frank

"Forged" is a buzz word that can mean many things. Are the centers cast? Billet forged? Die forged? The rims are probably forged, but I would confirm that too. BBS would have answers to this. You can also give them some info on car, wheel history, intended use, etc. and they might be able to shed more light. Quote:
Even if you could replace the rim halves, I'm 99% sure the bolt pattern is different on the LM rim than on a motorsport rim. But I could be wrong. Either way though, BBS could probably sell you LM rims in a different size. If your E26s really are magnesium, you should have them tested for cracks more frequently than an aluminum wheel.
