Help ID mystery part-now with photo
 

Hi,
Found in engine bay. 87 Carrera.

Looks like adjusting pin.

Approx. 2.5" long with about 1/2" of threading on one end and slotted on the treaded end for adjusting.


Please help ID.

If you can show us the other end.
To me it looks like an engine case stud(broken)or A/c compressor stud.Was your 911 in repair shop lately? The slut for screwdriver looks home made...cannot say until i see the other end..

Mmm... I’ve never had a 3.2 Carrera so I may be off base but it doesn’t look to be a factory piece of hardware. Kinda hard the tell from the pix. Does the the slot look like it was done with hack saw or does it look factory machined ?

The slot looks factory, not a hack job
The unthreaded end is chamfered, not broken like a stud, as you would expect a pin that fits into a hole would be.
There are two full circumference sections on the shaft that appear to be worn due to contact, like where the pin passed through something.
The pin looks like it may be plated and does not look like it spent time in an oily environment.

It's a mystery.
I am in the middle of changing fuel lines. AC and blower were removed long ago. I was about halfway through so I called it a day. The next morning, the pin was on top of the moving blanket that is draped over the rear. It was right on top of where the latch is as if I'd set it there.

well after looking at it ..it could be you shaft from this latch...how is the rest on the hood?

Excellent inference, sir! I thought for sure you were right. Until I got home. The pin in the latch is almost identical but mine is still intact.

I resumed working and when I reached for my large crescent wrench, the adjusting barrel fell out. Turns out, the pin that held the barrel in place worked its way out. It must have landed on the blanket or been left behind when I put tools away.

I feel embarrassed but relieved that it wasn't something that came off the car or worse yet, caused damage.
