Narrowest 2post lift

Wife wants to park her car in garage in winter time(imagine that!). Have a garage that has a useable footprint of 19w and 20L and 12.4 h. Have 8" slab. Any ideas what is the narrowest 2 post lift is to give my wife ample room to park. How close to the outside wall can be the post be mounted? Seen anywhere from 6" to 2 ft. Thanks Jerry

My Rotary brand lift (highly recommended) is adjustable width - I'm sure it could be modified to a width that is unusable for lifting anything other than old MG's.

There is a hydraulic release you'll need clearance for, but otherwise I'm sure 6" is plenty. I have mine a little more than 12", and it's tight but you can get around it (very handy so you don't have to walk around).

Good luck, hope you can work it out - it still is one of the best investments I've ever made.

Plenty of lifts out there that are stand alone, that is to say, have no connection between the two posts. They can be as narrow apart and as far apart as you wish. The car and the hoist arms will determine how narrow it can be.

How far from the wall varies as well. The manufacturer will probably have a recommendation as to have far from the edge of the slab it should be. If your garage has footings or a monolithic slab will probably affect that answer as well. Another thing to consider is what can you do if the post is right up against the wall. If it's 6" away from the wall and the posts set really close together could mean the car would be very close to the wall. Do you really want to work on brakes/suspension when the car is only 18" from a wall? Think you can get a torsion bar out when it's that close? Something to think about.

If things get tough on space and keeping both sides happy, have you considered this?

I also have one of these, but my P cars won't clear. Depends on what she drives as a stock SUV/truck would have no issue. It's not as useful as a two post, but serves a purpose in basement garage. STILL, so much better than jack stands all the time.

Get a single column, but not the "mobile" version. Unless you need mobile.

Are you talking about the spacing between them?

Usually you can space them apart any amount you want.

As for how close to the outside wall, you can butt it up as close as you can (as long as the controls are on the other side).

Thanks for all the suggestions, If I cant find a 2 post lift that works I like the idea o single post lifts. Just move it to the outside wall and possibly have some floor brackets fabricated and bolt it to the floor. It does not have to be mobile. Also, I have to look closer at the baseplate 2 posts The Atlas unit has ramps which I don't prefer. Thanks again,

Just wondering. Is an in-ground single post an option? About as out-of-the-way a permanent lift can get.

Really happy with our single post lift, more than adequate for the job and saves loads of room

A one post lift? Brilliant, who is the manufacturer.

I think most lift mfg have 1 posts now. I have eagle 2 post and 4 post, here is their 1 post:

Have you considered a 4 post? Easy drive-on, still good for most jobs.

It would be great if someone offered a single post with attachable/detachable ramps so the wheels aren't suspended when used for storage.

Really liking the idea of the single post lift esp for our 2700 lb Porsches. Anyone recommend a particular brand. Called Eagle yesterday to get a shipping price, the sales person was very helpful. Challenger has a 2 post LE-10 that is a little narrower than most .

when shopping keep in mind “lift height” talks about the car, not the clearance underneath. Those arms can be thick

Also the suspension sags and wheels hang low when lifted so don’tt think 6 ft lift=6 foot clearance undernearh
