are those headlights street legal?

cool color though!

drcoastline 04-01-2019 03:04 AM

Not sure if they are legal in the US but after reading some info on it, seems the car spent most of it's life in Europe, South of France specifically. So must have been legal there at least.

Still haven't found the color code but did find a model paint supplier that sells 6oz for around $9. So getting a bottle to try and match. Again from reading about the car. It was painted to match the Wolf F1 team colors.

Yes that is correct, the dark blue was the F1 team colors

Those headlights would not be streetlegal in most states.

Also Suzuki has a ‘87 model with same color.

How do you know it is the same color? Edit: Ahhh, I see they made a Walter Wolf edition RG 500 bike. Thanks for the info.

Currently the car is Mercedes (904) Midnight Blue. If I can not find the Wolf color I will just stay with the Midnight Blue. It's not to far off.

This isn't the best photo of the current color due to fade, dirt, oxidation but gives an idea.

.

With this headlight set up, I doubt it.
But maybe at the time it was street legal.
Nowadays, I seriously doubt it.

If those light are illegal I guess I have been breaking the law for the last 35 years. Haha

Well I don't know. But there are several articles on the car stating it was/is street legal. Apparently this car is 98% identical to the 1979 K3 that won LeMans outright. The only changes from the Lemans car to car are a full 930 interior, custom exhaust and it is raised slightly for ground clearance.

Walter Wolf's Porsche 935 is a snarling street-legal Le Mans winner

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a gorgeous car.
But those headlights don’t meet the minimum height requirements.
Very possible that it was legal in the past and is now exempt from current regulations.
I doubt it sees a lot of public roads though. :)

I'm not getting you wrong. You questioned whether it was then or now street legal due to the headlights. I personally have no clue regarding Europe. Personally I don't think it would have been legal in the US in 1979, but apparently it was legal in France and maybe Italy since both countries are referenced.

According to the article, Walter Wolf drove it roughly 6000+ miles form 79 to 87 when it was sold. Apparently the car had it's own chase plane carrying spare tires. Since being sold to Swiss collector Angelo Pallavicini who placed it in a museum.
