Flywheel question. Re install or new? 1 tooth missing.

Putting the motor back in my 964. It never had and issue with starting. Just noticed the flywheel is missing 1 tooth.

reinstall it or get a new one?(if I can even find one)

Thanks guys

You know the answer.

I don't know about Porsche or the 964 specifically, but generally the ring gear is removable and replaceable on the flywheel on most cars in my experience.

Depends. How much do you drive it? Do you mind taking it back apart when, not if, it fails?

Let's say the next tooth goes missing too...

Not to be silly, but since you mentioned that the car started fine: You know there are two sets of "teeth" and one of the sets of teeth is supposed to have one missing to trip the flywheel sensor. Is the starter gear missing a tooth, or is the trigger wheel missing a tooth? One is a big problem, the other is exactly as it should be.

These are as they should be:

No brainer. Replace it.

smokntr6, Exactly my thoughts.

Put the flywheel sans ring gear in the freezer. When frozen, heat up the ring gear with a flame or the oven. When hot, it will drop onto the cold flywheel.

Best place to purchase a new one? Porsche said 1400.00

Check the picture, smokin6 has the flywheel answer and Pamp picture shows the missing tooth on the motronic flywheel
