Tire size Question
 

Looking for next ax tires for my 15” rims on my 1979 911 SC.

I see BFGOODRICH Rival S 1.5 at 225/45 has a section width of 8.9 and a tread width of 7.8

The BFGOODRICH R1 -S at 205/50 has a section width of 8.4 and a tread width of 8

Mounting on an 7” rim, it looks like I get a bigger contact patch using the small R1 with no chance of fit issues.

Performance wise am I correct or should I still consider the 225 Rival?
Not worried about changing my class in ax at this time just worried about max performance. Yes I have suspension up grades and adj camber plates.

Those are 2 totally different tires

the S 1.5 ids a performance street tire the R1-S a DoT track tire not suited for extremely hot days on a big track either probably a great A/X tire

The wheel widths for both are 7 to 8.5 when mounted on a 7 both loose proportionally similar % of grip, for best results you'd really want an 8 or 8.5
