Randy,

there should be a plate in the driver side hinge post with 4 or 5 numbers. Please find out and we all can help you. Hopefully your car has that plate.

Hello,

For 1964-65 the code 6411- Togo brown was a special order color. No other color has two consecutive (11) numbers on those years. There were 7 standard colors and 4 special order; all four digit codes. Light Ivory and Champagne yellow are the closest to your description; all other colors will not be close to your beige. Sorry that I could not help. Best of luck on your search.

711 is the Reuter color code for orange, but that is a 50s 356 color.

I would think the only color close to Sahara Beige for 65 would be sand 6607.

6607-Sand Beige should be a 1966-67 standard color but if your car was built at the end of 1965 it could have that color. No expert here, but in Germany Porsche was a 1965 car if built between 1/1/1965 to 12/31/1965.

You might want to pose this question over on the earlyS registry. Member dpateman should know if and what assuming that’s a correct code. I’m assuming 356 and not 911?

That picture you linked does show what color #711 does look like.

I owned a 1959 A coupe in that color, and it's indeed #711 (5711), and was offered i think for 2 years (58-59), but certainly you could at that time in 1964 (when the car was ordered) get a special order color of whatever you wanted, and it was probably pretty easy to order a previous year color.

I know of a 1964-or 65 356 which was ordered in that color by Chick Iverson the Newport Beach dealer and it was kept for many years by them as a show car, with virtually no miles. Later in the collection of Lorenzo Pearson who owned VW supplier West Coast Metric. Lorenzo sold that car to Seinfeld where I believe the car still exists.

Here's a picture of my (former) 356 A coupe, it would be a great color to go back to on your car. There's a 912 that's been painted in that color, here's a link to a thread discussing this color.

NOTE! At least on my screen the color is too "red", in person the color is much more orange/pumpkin in appearance.

911 with colour 5711

Imho a little lighter than the original color that "I" found on areas of my 59 (my 59 had been repainted). I've seen lighter and darker versions of this color. Again, could be how the image was taken, our screens etc.

Personally I liked it in the little bit darker version. Truly though, this color is MUCH better in person than any image I've seen. I wish I could find a good picture of the 912 that's in this color, my "fail".

You can get a "kardex" for your car from a few sources, this would be a copy of the warranty card that Porsche kept up till the late 60's or so. It's the closest thing to a build sheet that you can get. It lists the original engine and trans numbers, color, options, interior, type of tires, key numbers, build date, delivery date etc (usually). It's available from dpateman (I believe) on the Early S Registry.

Randy, very cool. As Eric said, and I’m betting you knew, very early production car! Nice find. How did you come across it?

Randy,

Way cool.

From some known other cars your car was "maybe" a February 1965 production car.

The reason i say that is it was not produced when other similar numbered cars were completed the last week of January 1965. It was probably waiting at the paint shop for it's special color and was a few weeks out of sequence.

And your color may be a customer request special. The paint color doesn't show up in the standard color guides and the pumpkin 356 cross reference is in the red family of colors.

In looking at old (and photo not too true color) color charts your color appears to be closer to the (1968)Bahamagelb (Your photos look some where between a 1974 color SaharaBeige and Bahama Yellow).

Both of your photos (depending on lighting) are in the tan family. While the hinge color has a strong yellow appearance.

Get a color match/scan - take that door with hinge to your painter and get a sample color match.

Good luck with a noteworthy car.

You should be in conversation with Craig in Tenn. and D's who is now in Phoenix and "21windows" Greg. All with cars within weeks of yours.

300329 716 light ivory Kunstleder Schwarz
300330 711 braun Skaiflor teak/Pepita
300331 676
So the 3 digit codes must be for some special colors. 330 was a Presse car and very special interior. These cars were completed well after (6 weeks or more) contemporary VINs.
I am going to have to dig deeper to see what other cars belong to this group. All assistance appreciated.

Disclaimer: I am one of those Porsche color geeks. I agree with the post above that it looks closest to Bahama yellow.

The fact that it was a press car would lend credence to the possibility that it was a test car for a new color. To this day, Porsche paints new colors on factory cars.

Here is a video of a 67 in bahama.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jWO87RnFVew

I’d order a spray out of bahama yellow and see if it matches the hinge. Perhaps brown was not as marketable as bahama?

Regardless, it is a very special car. GLWTS.
