Getting Hosed

Hoping to get a little clarity and climb out of hose hell. Trying to find a braided fuel hose for the evap tank on my 86, and the PET states this:

Part N0203612 4 x 1,5

I'm assuming it's 4mm hose with a 1.5mm wall? Is 4mm the OD? I'd much rather buy raw hose than pay $90 for genuine hose, but it's been tough to find.

i think it is long 370mm .Get any hose it is just and air from the breather of the fuel tank.I think it is 8mm inside...same goes for the no.14.

I relaced the same line (top one) last year on my '85 Carrera and went to my Porsche dealership to ask for the line. They gave me this : N 0203591, it is way too long (as you can see by the leftover) but it is simply a fuel line of 9,0 mm x 2,5mm.
As you can see they wanted 10,87 EUR for it for about 1m length, but hey it says 'Made in Germany' on it so I took it. ;-)

Belmetric is an excellent source for metric hose, fittings, and fasteners.

It should be 4mm ID. you can verify this by comparing the dimensions and part number posted by FrankM. He posted PN N 020 359 1 which corresponds with the top line in the image you posted. the second line in the image is the description of the hose and states 9 x 2.5. when compared to FrankM's numbers he has 8.6mm ID which aligns with the 9mm description and then he measured 2.6mm wall which corresponds with the 2.5mm dimension.

So the hose you are looking for is nominally 4mm ID and 1.5mm wall thickness. I also believe that the diagram you have posted is slightly misleading, since on the US cars they have a carbon canister. So you will not have Items 14, 16 and 17 from your image. I believe you need to substitute items from illustration 201-20 for the carbon canister connections where your diagram details the overboard vent. So your car will have hose items (figure 201-20) # 13 and 12 and their associated hardware in place of the items mentioned above.

76FJ55 is right.

BullStandsAlone: I was able to find braided 4 mm at a local VW shop for $3.

Getting Hosed (love it)

Home Depot or Lowes. My mechanic is awesome and the car looks awesome with new clear (in my case a 73T) hose.
All the best with your project.

I just went to my local hardware store and bought a variety of clear hoses from them. Warmed the ends to stretch them slightly and made them fit. Since I am not trying to win at Pebble Beach I figure that is ok.
