Battery Cable Questions
I am overhauling my Frunk on my 1987 911 and I noticed that all you guys have really nice looking positive battery cables. I wanted to replace my 50 year old pos cable that works perfectly for aesthetic reasons. But when I researched the matter it looks like you have to darn near replace wires all the way back to engine in the back. Way over my head. Are you guys doing something else to give that fresh cable look by the battery w/o having to rewire the whole darn car.
Second. can someone advise me where to get a real nice looking ground battery cable that is longer than stock and looks much better than my 50 year old ground cable. Any help in guiding me on how to make these battery cables look better would be greatly appreciated. Again they are functional and no problem. If you suggest I should leave the po cable alone I will take that advice as well. |

Take some screen shots of batt connections you like, remove your neg cable & take it to an Interstate battery distributor, not a retail store, and show them what your looking for. Distributors have cable & connectors that they can make up.

Old oem pos! I went to car box store and picked up a new ground cable for something like $10. BTW, there is no skin effect with DC (previous thread...)

Is that a nyloc nut you're using on that ground cable? Wouldn't a conventional nut make for better contact with the post?

Why? the nyloc is just the top 3mm or so. nyloc will stay tighter theoretically.

I thought about that but I think most of the contact is from that plated pad and not as much from the threaded post. I also agree with dicklague that the locking part is only the top most threads.
