Pics of Royal Purple(Lilac)?

Does anyone have a picture of a 69 - 73 in Royal Purple (Lilac)? Certificate of Authenticity says paint code is 6969. Door pillar says 341 9-1.

Mike:

Lilac is paint code L341 and was first available in 1972. I think it's more of a green color.

It's the original color of my car. Here's a pic, you can see it's really is purple. I'd like a shot of an entire car so I have a "before" pic to go with the "after"

Wow, what a color! Helping you with a bump here as I'd like to see some pics too. I hope it was a factory color.

Yes, it was a standard color in '72. in fact a few RS Carreras were in this color, also called "Lilac"

Mike:

Yes, that is definitely a purple color and not green. The swatches I've seen look more green--it would not be the first time inaccurate info has been put out. If that, indeed, is the original color of you car, I would repaint it that color. I have not seen too many Porsches this color. It reminds me of an early 70's Mopar color called "Plum Crazy." This was, without a doubt, a period color!

OK, this is getting curiouser and curiouser. Because I was looking for purple, I overlooked the paintscratch info that clearly shows Lilac as green. I've never thought Lilac to be such a deep purple. I guess it isn't! So now the question is, why does my car have a paint tag listing 341 (Lilac) and the Certificate of Authenticity shows this: "Exterior paint color/Code: Royal Purple(Lilac)/6969"? The car was obviously purple; it's everywhere, trunk, bottom of pan, inside all nooks and crannies, wheelwells, everywhere, I've got it apart, so I can see it all. Any ideas?

JRISER - Yeah, I know the color and it's very popular with the Mopar crowd. There are far more Plum Crazy Mopars now than there were back then. The only other car in this color that I have seen was an RS or RS replica. It didn't have as much luster as I'd have liked, almost a washed out purple, although it was dusty. I polished up the area under the door sills, though, and they really shine. I'm tempted, the car has been silver for years, and silver is what I've always wanted, but with so many silver cars on the road... I'm doing SC flares and a ducktail, and thought that IF I use Carrera graphics on a silver car I'd do them in purple as a nod to the original color. However, can you imagine the car in Royal Purple with gold graphics? It'd get my attention.

As far as the documentation is concerned, I would stick with the color the car was painted originally, and not what some document says. Who knows, there may have been some last minute change on the line or something. There is also a chance that your car was totally stripped before repainting, but I seriously doubt it. I would bet my money on the purple as being the factory color.

With so many Porsche owners making modifications to their cars, it is becoming harder and harder to find "pure" examples of this wonderful car. If you look at muscle cars, the totally original cars always command the highest prices. I don't see any reason why this would not happen with Porsches. Not that I think I am right, but I do have a gut feeling about this.

I just checked out paint codes in Brett Johnson's book ("Authenticity") and there it shows "Royal Purple/Lilac 6969 paint code 341, so the lilac of this year was purple. OK, nevermind on the code/color confusion. Back to the original point. Anyone have a car in this color? Thanks
