Here is a breakdown of my costs for the conversion so far
tranny and shifter $1700 pedal assembly and lines $350 clucth $800 axles $400 machining the case $450 plus shipping various stuff $500 So far I have a total of $4.5k into it. I should be done buying stuff for the swap, but you never know. My buddy Chris Bennet said doesn't it bug you that you spent $5k on your car and it doesn't go any faster. Thanks Chris for pointing that out:) Garrick, Mike R's powertrain doesn't fit in his Carrera so I don't know how Patrick does it with out moving the motor. |
Those are great prices that you got for your parts. Your machining cost is about a third of what Patrick and JP Motorsports charge. All I can tell you is that Patrick's and JP Motorsports shortened a G50 boxes fit in place of the factory 4 speed [in my case an 86 915] without relocating the factory engine mounts. Before I did mine I heard that there were 2 ways to do the conversion. One was to cut the torsion tubes .... which was complicated and could lead to other problems or cut the bell housing. If you shortened the bell housing the proper amount the box slips in without further modification. You use the G50 transmission cradle with adapter blocks that fit over the original transmission mount points that allow the original 930 box to be retrofited later. I can fax you Patrick's install instructions if you want. It does not call for relocating the engine mounts. My JP Motorsports box also uses the factory engine mounts. I know that when Jimmy did my box he needed my starter, flywheel and clutch to make sure the clearances were right and that everything fit together properly.
