Pics of modified valance for twin pipe Sport muffler?

Hello all.

Does anyone have pics of a valance, preferably of an SC, which has been modified to accomodate a twin pipe (center exit) Sport muffler?

I am trying to decide if I should cut two semi-circles, one for each pipe, or if I should cut out a rectangular section and round the sides.

Comments or suggestions?

THANKS!

BTW, hope all the SoCal folks had fun at Dunkles, I was not able to make the event

I have just finished adding SSI H/E's and a dual outlet sport muffler on my '79 SC. I had to cut the valance into peices because the pipes rested against the aluminum bumper. I had to cut two radius parts out of the underside of the bumper to make room for the two outlet pipes. I could not lower the muffler any lower so this was the only fix I could come up with. You cannot see the cuts and the finished product looks stock. I can send you some pic's. Let me know how your install goes.

Speedman, whose muffler did you go with? Bummer....had to actually cut the bumper, huh? I was under the impression just the valance had to be cut.

Thx

There was a recent thread discussing this. Below is a pic of Kurt B's conversion but it appears to be a non stock bumper. Kinda looks to be in the valance area but not sure. The search should bring up other pics.....

Has anybody converted a stock 84-89 muffler to a dual out?

I went with a dansk from Per./Prod. . I did not want to cut the bottom of the bumper, but i could not get the pipes to drop down anymore without enlarging the two bolt holes for the flanges. If you do that you will cut down on the to dia. so the the bumper went up the knife.

Brad:

I would go with two circular cutouts in the valance as this was how they looked in the factory race cars. I've never seen a rectangular cut out. Would be curious though to see it.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go with the two cutouts. I'll post some pics when it's done. Should look pretty sharp with the ducktail addition too

This is a good question. We are going to have a dual out put on this spring. At first they said we would need a new valance, but now they are saying they can work with the one we have.

I trust them...I just wonder how they will cut the 2nd rounded section off without it getting rusty. Anyway...i'm sure they know what they are doing and how to weather proof it.

Make sure to post your pictures when it is finished.

Why not try it with out any cut outs and see if you like it that way. If not, change it. I installed my custom muffler without any. They point straight down with tips cut at an angle about 2 feet apart. Kind of like an old school V8 would. I think it looks cool But, I actually like the center muffler the best. I so wanted to do this on my 72 but could not figure out a way.

I would try to do two round cutouts (You can always square them later if you decide round sucks!), and I would cut the pipes back until the protrude just 3/4" or so, keeping them sympathetic (paralell) with the bumper surface in all axis.

When I made my center exit sport muffler I went lower in the muffler and the pipes curve up and around the rear vlance with out cutting. no mods to any body parts at all It looks and sounds Great! Not an easy job but it is well tuned and not to loud not to quite just right. I have a some pictures but no way to post I think I need a scanner to do that they are regular old style pictures
