Basic engine timing
I'm pretty confident that I got this right, but just want confirmation, as what I've observed in contrary to some handwritten notes. '74 US Carrera. As viewed from the rear of the car, the engine spins Clockwise, as does the rotor on the distributor. Correct?
My crank pulley has, for reasons that I don't understand, 2 sets of 2 hash marks, each One set does have a stamping that I believe says "1" and "5". These marks comport with TDC and 5° ATDC, and the rotor is pointing to the #1 position on the baseplate, when they align with the single mark on the fan housing. However, there is a second set of marks, with no visible stamping that i can see, that come up before the previously mentioned marks. I've enclosed a photo. The red arrow points to the marks that I believe indicate TDC and 5°, the encircled marks are the ones in question. Any idea what these reference? And, is my understanding of the engine direction, etc. correct? thanx steve |

Two marks to right are 30&35 degree advance.
Warm and free spinning above 4000, spec calls 6000 rpm you lock timing Idle returns to where it wants to be with a functional distributor. The vacuum pod is a retard to generally ATDC. BRUCE |
Bruce, thanx so much. that makes perfect sense. I'm all set. very cool. steve

I assume the other two single hash marks represent 120° (TDC for 6/3) and 240° (TDC for the 2/5 pair? thanx guys. s
