Kermie finally gets a proper duck

For years I've made due with my GT Racing fiberglass ducktail.
It fit "OK" and has held up reasonably well.

Always wanted an aluminum base ducktail, but the prices for the real factory item are pretty amazing to say the least.
Aase Sales to the rescue.
Not to say that theirs is inexpensive....
For Christmas, I received one of their aluminum base ducktails.

My local body and paint shop did a great job of getting it fit, body worked and painted to match.
There was very little body work needed.
Just along both edges.

To give the car a different look, I removed the Porsche and Carrera RS black decals and instead went with the plastic Carrera RS emblem that was found on the Euro 2.7 Carrera's that had the normal (non-duck) engine lid.
I think it really cleans up/simplifies the rear end.
Plus I'm not really trying to copy an RS/RSR as my car is much more of a hotrod now anyway.

I left most of the aluminum underneath unpainted....just cleared it, as I wanted to see the beautiful metal when I opened the lid.
The Aase lid has provisions for the rubber bumpers that go in the lower corners, cutouts for the license plate lights, mounting surface for the factory latch, etc.
A real nice piece.

I still used the rubber hold downs and the 993RSR prop rod that was on my previous lid.
Seems like redundancy with the factory latch and the rubber hold downs???
Well....I like the look of the rubber hold downs plus I like the security of the factory latch.

All in all, I'm very happy with the end result.
Most of the people that see my car won't even notice the difference.
Guess crazy people like me just do it because we know it's there and it's important.;):D

To complete the transformation to full hotrod, I removed the black Carrera stripes that I've always had on the car, and replaced them with a set of custom Porsche stripes that Bob Tilton on the Early 911 S Registry puts together.

Perfect I think.
They really complement the Weidman Wheel's RSR finished Fuchs on the car.

Now if I can only get my engine mods completed....the car will be finally finished.
Ha

to me THAT is THE BEST looking Porsche.
I have always loved green with the brushed fuchs.

I have a 930 and THAT is my favorite car

I’m looking to have an old fiberglass ducktail printed and fitted. It was made by Carousel in Minneapolis. Can you share the appx cost that you paid for the job? Trying to get a ballpark for planning purposes. Thanks

Looks great!

Love the Duck! Been looking at AASE for my car's 'next' project. Beautiful RS! Congrats!

So, when do we see it in "person"?

I went to a very high quality auto body shop, so it wasn't exactly cheap.
Had some other things done to the car also, but I think it was in the $1200-1400 range including the cost for the paint.
The fitting and prep work takes a lot of time to it right, so you'll pay for whatever level of quality you're looking for.

That's SICK Skinnerd !

We'd notice :)

Jonny042 04-10-2019 01:55 PM

Nice! Great attention to detail on the install!

Do you have a build thread for the rest of the car?

Edoyle 04-10-2019 02:15 PM

Your car looks great and well thought out.. it would be nice to see more photos. Funny, I've attached my 993 engine lid prop rod in a similar way off the side using a small bracket.

It's been awhile for some updates.
Hopefully more will be coming later this year on the engine upgrades I want.

Paint is viper green....factory color of that day, but not factory for the car (it was originally Bahia red).

Racerbvd 04-10-2019 06:58 PM

Beautiful

Jonny042 04-11-2019 06:36 AM

Look forward to checking those out with a glass of vino later.

kent olsen 04-11-2019 12:20 PM

Nice Skinnerd. I've always liked that color on your car. You know me I like the ducktail, I even put a little one on my Hemi/Vette.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1555014029.jpg
